The CFDA 2018 Fashion Icon Award Is Going To Supermodel Naomi Campbell

This year, the Council of Fashion Designers of America is honouring the iconic supermodel, Naomi Campbell on June 4 at the Brooklyn Museum. The first black woman to cover French Vogue and Time magazine. The supermodel became an imperative role model for black women as she strutted for fashion’s most significant designers and houses, is unapologetically herself, obtains one of the strongest runway walks we have ever come across and is still killing the game a decade later.

Campbell broke barriers for millions of black women in the modelling industry. It is quite surprising CFDA are now acknowledging the supermodel as an icon after all she has accomplished,  but we won’t get into that today.

According to British Vogue, when finding out about the award, Naomi Campbell stated “It is truly an honour to be recognised by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award”.

Campbell went on to exclaim, “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.”

Previous honouree’s include some of the biggest influencers and celebrities of this generation. From; Kate Moss, Beyonce, Iman, Rihanna to David Bowie. However, we’re ecstatic about this year’s honouree. It is well deserved and most definitely about time!
