PrinceTY Drops New Single "Needed Me"
Tyrone Franklin Badu better known by his stage name Prince TY, is a singer, songwriter and musician. Born in Ghana and raised in England, he never imagined music would choose him. Tyrone was always an entertainer. From the minute he could walk, the spotlight was on him. Music was instilled in the young star from a very early age. Growing up in church he was the main drummer, playing the drums came naturally to him, just as entertaining did. The rhythm, the beat, he was in his own zone. The young man sang in church, sang with family and friends and even though he enjoyed it, he remained unaware of his God given talents and potential.
Prince TY has always been surrounded by people in the industry, many of his friends and family, such as JB Scofield are artists and musicians. Still, it never crossed his mind that he himself, was destined to be an artist. In fact his very first single was created by ‘accident’. 1am in the studio with his cousin, his natural ear for music became apparent. He heard an instrumental and adventitiously jumped on the mic and started singing. That very same song ‘B.A.D’ then went on to receive over 200,000 streams on Spotify and over 40,000 views on youtube. That was the birth of Prince TY.
Only a few months after the release of B.A.D, the new virtuoso opened up for the international, multi award winning artist Davido. Just months after discovering his natural talent Prince TY performed in front of thousands. He has shared the stage with the likes of SK, Sona, Big Tobz and B young. A great accomplishment for a brand new artist. The artist released a second collaboration in late 2018 with JB Scofield where we see the smooth alchemies that Prince TY showcases in an effortlessly natural way.
Prince TY has a distinguishable voice, his sound is effortlessly smooth with a jump of afrobeats, and afro swing. The young artist shows a variety of RnB vocals on top of multi layered beats that incorporate ‘light and trickling piano melodies’. His music has a ‘raw and textured soundscape. inspiration from the likes of Michael Jackson, Chris Brown, Lotto Boyz, Yxng Bane, August Alsina, Wiz kid and Ed Sheeran.
The artist has the potential to be known internationally for not only for being a great performer but also producing great music, touring the world and having the best team around him. With the new release of ‘Needed Me’ we are pleasantly presented with the artists signature style, seeing a natural progression in his melodies, the instrumental again showcases Prince TY’s ear for multilayered beats with his choice of light and trickling piano melodies behind his smooth melodic voice accompanied by his multi layered adlibs, ‘Needed me’ is something unique. We eagerly await for the release of his new music.
Below we caught up with Prince TY and he spoke on his musical influences and plans for the future:
When did you first get into music?
I started making music around a year and a half ago, in the late 2017.
What has influenced you and your music?
The main indulgence for me was growing up in the church, hearing different sounds and witnessing different musicians and their styles and love for music. Being Ghanian also had a huge part to play, my Dad was always playing music whether we were in the house, car or at parties. I’m attracted to different sounds. RnB, the way the voices laid on the instrumental, from the ad-libs to the passion in the voice. Gospel, the effect it has on the listener...the raw sound. Afro beats, the energy you get from the music makes you feel refreshed from start to finish. I’m influenced by hip-hop because of the word play and intellect in the lyrics.
What was the inspiration behind 'Needed Me'?
I wanted to create something different from my previous single ‘money’. With my amazing producer ‘JayKeyBeats’ I hand picked the instruments that I wanted in the song from start to finish to create diversity throughout the song. Needed me is a mix between RnB and light, breezy hip hop. I wanted to evidently out do myself. I put a lot into what I believe, is a masterpiece.
Who are your biggest musical inspirations?
Michael Jackson is a big inspiration for me, not only his natural talent but his stage presents, ability to perform and work ethic made him the legend he is. Wiz Kid, Ed Sheeran, Meek Mill, Young Thug and Tory Lanez are also huge influences for me.
What can we expect from you in the future?
In the near future I will most certainly be making more music, ‘money’ and ‘needed me’ showcase two very different sounds and produce two very different vibes, i have a lot more to showcase, one thing i will promise is that it will be nothing short of excellence. Alongside music videos, Headline shows will be in the picture .
