Nia Ekanem Releases Stripped Back Version of His Hit Song "FADIN"

Britsh-Nigerian singer Nia Ekanem releases his stripped back version of his song “FADIN”. Below, Nia speaks on the inspiration behind the song and his musical influences:

When did you first get into music?

I first got into music around 12 when my mum bought me my 1st keyboard. I didn't know how to play, but I would just mess around on it and attempt to play songs. I taught myself how to play by ear & loved playing Eastenders.

What has influenced you and your music?

Things that have influenced me & my music is love, that's a big thing I talk about and live by. Life, conversations with friends, family, people's story is a big one too. In terms of genre, anything great. I grew up listening to gospel, but also fell in love with soul, hip hop, reggae, pop, afrobeat, anything that makes me feel.

What was the inspiration behind 'FADIN''?

The inspiration cam from a conversation with friends of mine, who are also the genius behind the song. Lloyd Hinshelwood (producer and writer) and Alba Ariza. We shared some of our experiences from past relationships, and in doing so recreated the various emotions we were feeling.

Who are your musical inspirations?

My musical inspirations are people like, Nina Simone, Marvin Gaye, Sam Cooke, John Mayer, Bob Marley, Emelie Sande. These people have had an influence in my music and sound.

What can we expect from you in the future?

In the future, just more great music and shows, I will be doing a lot of shows this year.
