Blacpire Meets Talented Toronto Rapper Dejuan
Dejuan currently has an incredible music series on his Instagram titled Juander Tales. “I'm giving the listener my life story through captivating visuals and raw lyrics. I just dropped the first two episodes. Check 'em out!”
When did you first get into music?
The first time I got into music I was in the 7th grade. My brothers P and Kareem both had microphones in their basements, so when I went to there crib to chill, we'd record for fun.
What has influenced you and your music?
The influence behind my music is my life. Everything I rap about is something I've been through, or somebody close to me has been through. I also draw inspiration from my hometown, Toronto.
What was the inspiration behind 'Thank You Mama'?
During that time period I didn't have enough money to buy my mom a gift for mothers day, so I decided to do a song for her, to show her how much I appreciate her for everything she has done for me.
Who are your musical inspirations?
Definitely J. Cole, Drake, and I use to be a big Wayne fan back in the day as well.
What are your top 5 albums from last year?
Man, so many dope projects came out last year it'll be hard to only pick 5. But, I'd have to say Championships, K.O.D, Victory Lap, Swimming and Redemption. In no order.
Who do you think deserved the to win Best Rap Album at the Grammys? (The nominees were Cardi B, Travis, Mac Miller, Pusha T, Nipsey Hussle)
I'd go with Victory Lap, I really fuck with that project. Nothing but motivation. But S/O to Cardi, she had a hell of a year!
What can we expect from you in the future?
More music, more visuals, more everything!
You have amazing hair. How long did it take for you to grow it and where do you get your hair inspiration from?
Thank you! I've had my dreads for nearly three years now. My inspiration is from myself. I always wanted to lock it, and a few years ago my hair was at a point where I was able to, so I said why not?
